About Nikandre
In ancient Greek, the word “nikandre” means “victorious woman,” and that is a title to which I aspire on a daily basis but rarely feel I come close to achieving even with God’s help. As Nikandre, my main pursuits include being a wife to The Husband, a mom to The Girl (age 6), The Boy (age 4) and The Baby (also a boy, age 21 months), a caretaker to an ever-decreasing number of animals and a gardener whose main method is benign neglect. Come to think of it, I’d have to say that benign neglect is my main method all around, as I’m not what you’d call a natural in the stay-at-home wife and mother category.
In my pre-mommy days, I was a Classics geek, going so far as to receive a Master’s in Greek and Latin. I taught and advised at the college level and also worked in academic publishing. I was headed for my Ph.D. when The Husband came on the scene, and the rest is history. While my intellectual and teaching pursuits have, out of family obligation, been placed on the back burner for years now, I’m beginning to think there is some sort of use for them on the not-too-distant horizon. God simply hasn’t made it clear yet just what that use is going to be, so stay tuned. You’re likely to be just as surprised as I am!
